The Attractions Will Be In Benson For Sundown Series

The Attractions will take the stage tonight in Benson’s Singing Grove for the third show of the town’s 11th annual Sundown in Downtown concert series this year.

The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. and is free to the public. Steve Hardy’s Original Beach Party will open the show and entertain during intermission. The Attractions will begin their set at 6 p.m.

Fair-type concessions will be available for purchase such as hot dogs, hamburgers, lemonade, orangeade, hot fudge cake, ice cream and funnel cake. Attendees are also encouraged to pack their own picnic dinner.

The Attractions

In 1965, a group of teenagers from Burlington formed a local band in the basement of Hatley’s Music Store — that group eventually become known as The Attractions.

After a successful initial run, the climate of the times — including the Vietnam War — forced the band apart. Years went by as the original members were busy, building their careers and families, but the love for playing music was still a major part of them, according to the band’s website biography.

“A few of the members kept playing on weekends with different groups and the other members were still holding onto the dream of being on stage once again,” it reads.

In the summer of 1999, a reunion of the band was organized and once again The Attractions were all together. However, what started out as a reunion turned into a monthly rehearsal, then a weekly rehearsal and now the group is playing most every weekend.

In November of 2009, The Attractions were inducted into The Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame.

In addition, Benson will continue to see prominent beach music artists make their way into town for 2016 including Jim Quick and the Coastline Band in August.

Benson’s Singing Grove is located at 406 E. Main St. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the American Legion Building at 605 N. Wall Street.
