Think Smart Offering Youth Summer Enrichment Camp

Think Smart Outreach Center Inc. 21st Century Community Learning Center will sponsor its 15th annual Summer Enrichment Program titled “Where STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and Fitness Meet: Learn. Play. Stay Fit.” The agency is currently registering students for the summer.

Think Smart is a nonprofit youth organization that was established in 2001. The organization assist youth ages 5 to 18 years old. The Summer Enrichment Program will consist of three modules. Students do not have to participate in all three modules to be part of the Summer Enrichment Program. All academies will operate Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fee to attend is $25 per session/per child. The fee is due at registration. Transportation will not be provided. All camps are open to the general public.

• A Technology Class/Entrepreneurship Academy will be held July 25-28. The academy is open to youth in middle and high school and will be held at Campbell University in Buies Creek. The academy facilitator will be Terrie Hampton Bethea who is a technology professor at Campbell University and was the first certified STEM educator in the Harnett County School System.

• A Basketball Clinic/Academy will be held Aug. 1-4. The academy will be open to youth ages 5 to 18 years old and will be held at Erwin Parks and Recreation gym in Erwin. The camp facilitators are Campbell University and Triton High School coaching staff and Think Smart coaching staff will be there to assist.

• A Drumline Academy will be held Aug. 8-11. The academy will be open to youth ages 10 to 18 years old and will be held at Williams Recreation Center in Erwin. The camp facilitator is Dr. James White. He has his doctorate degree in music and is a former band director for Alabama A& M University and Think Smart drumline director.

Summer Enrichment slots are limited and are on a firstcome first-serve basis. Last year the Summer Enrichment Program slots were full within two weeks of advertisement; the agency is recommending that you register your child or children prior to the start of the camp in order to get a spot.
