Outstanding Older Adult Awards Presented At Unity
Unity Presbyterian Church named Mackie and Thelma W. Jones as the recipients of the 2016 Outstanding Older Adult Awards. Mr. and Mrs. Jones work great as a team in the church. Mr. Jones started at Unity as a young boy while Mrs. Jones “married” into Unity in March 2002. This couple lives out the commandments in Joshua 22:5; “To love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey His commands, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul.” They have served on the spring fundraiser committee for the last several years helping with all aspects of fundraising, such as fixing the slaw, peeling potatoes, getting cookers and equipment ready for the “big day.”
Mrs. Jones has also helped with the “Fat Tuesday pancake supper,” “Love is Ageless Luncheons,” “Senior Sunday” and “Vacation Bible School” and anytime she is asked to help, especially doing food and beverages.
They both have helped with the Easter Sunrise Service, Benson Food Bank and other missions in the church and community. Both served in helping other churches in the community and Mrs. Jones’ home community.
Mr. Jones has two daughters, Melody and Denay. Mrs. Jones had three daughters, Lisa, Paula and Doris. Sadly, Paula succumbed to cancer in 2015. Together they have a total of 10 grandchildren.
