Triton’s Champion, Tyndall Receive Two Rivers Awards
From Staff Reports
Anna Marie Tyndall of Triton has been named Player of the Year in softball in the Two Rivers 3-A Conference and teammate Lindsay Champion has been recognized as Pitcher of the Year.
Tyndall, a junior who hits lefthanded, had a .500 batting average with seven doubles, six triples and 23 RBIs from the leadoff position for the Hawks, who were 12-12 overall and 7-3 in regular season league play.
“Well deserved,” said Triton coach Mark Whitman of Tyndall’s honor.
Champion was 7-6 in the circle with a 3.76 earned run average.
“She easily could have been 10-0,” said Triton coach Mark Whitman. “Some of that may have been decisions I made but she was more than a pitcher.”
Champion, who has signed with Methodist, hit .442 with four home runs and a team-high 27 RBIs.
Four more Triton players made all-conference including second baseman Emilee West, first baseman Ashley Daniel, catcher Kayla Riewestahl and third baseman Alexis Howard.
Former Triton and Campbell star Amanda Miller Smith, who coaches South Johnston, is Two Rivers Coach of the Year.
Triton reached the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs.
The Hawks will embark on summer league developmental play on June 14. Also scheduled to participate are Goldsboro, Harnett Central, Midway, Southern Wayne and Western Harnett.
