Lawnmower Thief

You people out there look out for a lawnmower thief. The lawnmower thief broke my lock and went in there and got my lawnmower and he might be trying to sell it. Look out for the lawnmower thief.

Picking On GOP

Why is it that only the Republicans get investigated, like Ben Carson? They went all the way back about his childhood. But no, they can’t go after Mrs. [Hillary] Clinton or Bernie Sanders or Barack Obama. It’s like they just started and they were never born and raised up as young’uns because you can’t find out anything about them. They keep that silent. But any Republican, it’s the news media that keeps that going.

Thanks To Morris

I would like to say hats off to Erwin Police Chief [Bill] Morris for his effort in cracking down on these loud mufflers [article, May 13, “Erwin Cracking Down On Loud Mufflers”]. I’ve found that the pickup trucks are especially noisy, some of them anyway. And I hope that Dunn Police Chief [Jimmy] Pope will join in and come down firm on it too.

Not Representative

[In response to the May 19 article, “Council OKs Debris Cart”] Well, count on our City Council not to represent the majority of the citizens of Dunn on the trash pickup issue. Most of the citizens on the east side of the tracks do not have any drainage at all. There’s very few over here in the residential sections at all. There are actually houses over here with no grass, period. We have few very large yards. So they’re going to have to pay $5.80. You multiply that by how many houses, you … come out with a tremendous amount of money.

Not Needed

[In response to the May 19 article, “Council OKs Debris Cart”]

My gosh, I don’t need another cart and I definitely don’t need a higher bill. I’m already paying for a recycle bin that I don’t even use.

We’re The Bullies

Anything in the school system is called bullying people. No, but the United States, they’re the biggest bully there is. They want to make other countries get in line like they believe and other countries don’t believe in things we believe in. They’ve got sense. We have now come to P.C. That’s what’s wrong with us now, we don’t have any sense, but we are the bullies of the world.

Increases Buying Power

In response to the caller who said an increase in wages will causes prices to go up [Sound Off, May 17, “What’s The Point?”]. Simply, inflation is the leading cause of rising prices for goods and services. Wage increases give the consumer more buying power. Productivity goes up and businesses hire more workers. Higher education helps too, but everyone is not cut out for college. You are paying for that CEO who makes $7,000 per hour which defies gravity and goes up to the 1 percent. It’s supposed to trickle down to the middle- and lower-class per Reagan and Bush.

Overlooked

On Friday night [May 13] I packed up a bag of canned goods for the mail carriers’ food drive that was supposed to happen on Saturday. I do this every year — the Stamp Out Hunger Campaign. I believe in it. I left my bag of groceries on the porch. … And it was left there, exactly where I put it. So I won’t be participating anymore. I just wonder if I was the only one overlooked.

Fond Farewell

I would like to say a fond farewell to Oonagh O’Quarrie who is leaving the Dunn area and to thank her for her excellent reporting in

The Daily Record and the subscribers of the paper will miss her and good luck to her in her future.

Protests Won’t Stop

Remember all the fuss and the protesting against the voter ID bill — the Democrats didn’t like it? Well, all the protesting isn’t going to stop. All the mess about HB2 is not going to stop until the election. Thank the Lord they’re trying to protect us from the sexual predators. Every time you pick up a newspaper there’s somebody being arrested for molesting little boys or little girls or women.

Make Them Work

I’m calling in reference to the prisoners working beside the road. Yes, I think they need to work beside the road so they don’t have to stay in prison to play basketball, watch TV and play cards. They need to be beside I-95 cleaning out the ditches, picking up trash. If they go out and shoot somebody and break into somebody’s business, go to Walmart or steal something, yes, they need to be beside the roads. That’s why the roads are looking the way they do, because they’re not put beside the roads cleaning up the trash.

Crack Down

Thank you Erwin for enforcing the law on loud mufflers [article, May 13, “Erwin Cracking Down On Loud Mufflers”]. I would hope Dunn will follow. It is a nuisance when you’re sleeping and you’re awakened in the middle of the night by pickup trucks with loud mufflers. I have to sleep to be able to get up at 5 in the morning to go to work. It is hard to be awakened and return to sleep. … Dunn, please do like Erwin and crack down.

What Is Wrong?

In Louisiana on that long bridge there was a cat that got run over and they took up a $17,000 reward to find out who killed the cat. But then in New Orleans a guy got killed who went to college and they couldn’t raise but $1,700 to find out who killed him. What is wrong with these people about the animal rights? Like humans don’t have rights. And what are we, grass grazers?
