Raiders 4-0 Vs. 4-A Opponents

Midway’s Senior baseball team in the Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League improved to 4-0 with a 7-6 win over visiting Pine Forest on Thursday night.

All of the wins for the Raiders, a 2-A program, have come against 4-A competition, including the first three games on the road in Midway’s return to the CCSSL after a two-year break.

“This team has grown up a little bit,” said Raiders summer coach Chris Calcutt. “They’re not as inexperienced as in the spring.” Midway opened the summer season with a 13-6 win at Overhills on Monday as Gregory Nobles went 3-for-3 and Luke Clark was 4-for-5.

Carson Calcutt, Chandler Williford, Dustin Holland and Landon Dorman pitched for the Raiders in the opener.

Midway took a pair of five-inning wins at South View on Tuesday night, 7-6 and 3-2 as Holland and Dorman each pitched complete games.

Holland allowed six hits and struck out two in the first game. Dorman yielded four hits in the second game.

Getting hits for the Raiders in the first game were Dorman, Clark, Hollad and Calcutt.

Dorman, Jaron Register and Braden Coats had hits for Midway in the second game with the Tigers.

Nobles had reached base in 10 straight plate appearances going into the first home game of the summer on Thursday night but was limited to an 0-for-3 night by the Trojans.

Clark went 3-for-3, Calcutt was 2-for-3 and Wesley Johnson was 1-for-2 in the Pine Forest game. Austin Peterson and Coats were each 1-for-3.

Peterson started on the mound against Pine Forest, allowing two runs in the first inning. Clark yielded four runs over the next four innings.

Calcutt held the Trojans scoreless over the last two innings, striking out five.

Upcoming Games

Midway will host Cape Fear of Cumberland County on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Overhills visits the Raiders for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday.

Luke Clark pitched four innings Thursday evening in Midway’s 7-6 baseball win over Pine Forest.
