CU’s Barber Helps West Win

From Campbell Media Services

Incoming women’s basketball freshman Hayley Barber represented Campbell and Northwest Guilford in Monday night’s N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star game at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Barber helped the West squad to a 105-85 victory over the East in the showcase of the state’s top players.

Barber, a 5-7 guard, was the first player in Northwest Guilford history to be selected to the state all-star contest.

She finished with four points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in the highest scoring game in the event’s history.

“It’s crazy,” Barber told the Greensboro News & Record. “My high school career lasted so long, but it feels like it went by so quick,” Barber is the reigning Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Player of the Year after leading the Vikings to a 30-1 overall record last season.

The Summerfield native was selected to the NCBCA All-District 7 first team for the secondstraight season and was an NCBCA all-state second team honoree.

She is a three-time all-conference selection.

Barber finished her prep career with 1,120 points and is a former Greensboro News & Record All-Area Player of the Year.

She was named the HAECO Invitational MVP and the My Guilford Sports All-Guilford MVP.

Barber recently received the NCHSAA Heart of a Champion Award recognizing her outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship.

The Camels’ 2016 incoming freshman class includes Barber, Taya Bolden of Richmond, Va, Breanna Foster of Asheboro, North Carolina and Kelly Post of Fayetteville.

Ronny Fisher was announced as the Lady Camels’ new head coach this past April, following CU alumnus Wanda Watkins.
